They do it every year, and here it is. Pantone’s Color of the Year, Blue Iris, was chosen because it combined:
“the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement.”
An interesting choice, one that I was not very keen on when I first heard about it, but once they explained the color choice, it was a little more understandable. The New York Times wrote an interesting article about it here.
